Frequently Asked Questions

  • They might! School-based and private speech therapy have different eligibility requirements. To qualify for school-based services, the disorder must negatively affect a student’s ability to succeed academically. For more information about that, please check out this post on school eligibility requirements from American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

A private evaluation will provide you with detailed information on your child’s strengths and weaknesses in speech and language, and private evaluations don’t follow the same eligibility requirements as schools.

Here at Into Words Therapy, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide ethical and effective treatment to children and adolescents who need it. We take a holistic approach to speech and language by taking special care to consider your child’s oral and written language skills, speech sound production, or whatever your speech-language concerns may be. We want your child to achieve their potential in both casual and formal oral language, like conversations and presentations, as well as in reading and writing. Let’s talk more during a complimentary consultation.

  • The speech-language evaluation consists of three parts: consultation, evaluation, and review. This ensures a thorough evaluation. Please refer to our evaluation page for more detailed information and a step by step process.

  • Session length is individualized based on client need, and they can be as short as 10 minutes for clients who are able to participate in therapy multiple times per week, or as long as 45 minutes per week. Check out our treatment page to learn more.

  • Into Words Therapy is not in network with insurance at this time. Based on your insurance plan, you may be able to use insurance benefits to pay for out of network coverage. We’ll provide you with a list of questions you can ask your insurance provider to determine your out-of-network benefits and a superbill after each visit that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

  • Yes, we are happy to say that speech therapy evaluations and treatment are qualifying expenses for your FSA or HSA. Our other services, such as school observations, may not qualify for your FSA or HSA.

  • I have years of experience as an in-network provider, and I did not make this decision lightly. I started my practice to provide the highest quality care for families, and as an out-of-network provider, I have more flexibility to provide your child with the best treatment possible. The advantages to working with an out-of-network provider are described below.

More time to focus on your child: As a solo practitioner, I dedicate my time to patient care, whether that’s through evaluation, treatment, consultations, collaboration with care teams, or continued education. Being an out-of-network provider gives me the freedom to spend my time and attention in ways that directly benefit your child.

No Surprise Bills: I provide transparent pricing and superbills that you can submit for reimbursement. At Into Words Therapy you will always know what you owe. Check out this information on the Good Faith Estimate. Insurance coverages and benefits are often not straightforward, leading to unexpected bills for clients. At Into Words Therapy, you don’t have to worry about surprise charges.

Start therapy right away: At Into Words Therapy, your child can get started right away! Insurance approval processes can delay the start of much-needed intervention.

No interruptions in therapy: Without the constraints of insurance, we can continue therapy without unnecessary breaks as long as clinically indicated.

The right number of sessions for your child: Your child’s therapy will stop when they achieve their goals, not before. Many insurance plans have restrictions on the number of visits, which may not align with your child’s needs. It’s extremely frustrating to be making strides in therapy, only to run out of visits. Therapy should end when your child achieves their goals, not before!

Small Caseload: A small caseload size gives me the time to properly connect with your child, collaborate with care teams, and learn about the latest therapy research. The reimbursement rates offered by insurance are typically very low, which challenges the sustainability of providing high-quality care.

As an out-of-network provider, Into Words Therapy can provide the high quality, individualized, and innovative treatment your child needs and deserves without the constraints and complexities of insurance involvement.
